To maximize your CBD SEO performance, you will want to focus on a few things, including your website’s Domain Authority, the overall quality of your posts, and the level of competition in your space. One of the drivers of a stronger Domain Authority score is a well-populated website with content built to answer the questions people are asking (searching) the most. So as you publish CBD content to your site, you will want to get a leg up by doing a little keyword research to determine what CBD-related answers your target demographic is searching for.

Keyword Research

By doing some preliminary keyword research, you can be sure that the content you are publishing is crafted to correspond with the most popular CBD-related searches. Otherwise, it’s likely that people won’t find your content, even if it’s great stuff.

When researching what keywords to target in your content, keep in mind that being more specific and using long-tail keywords over broad ones is beneficial for a couple of reasons.

Let’s say you are a CBD energy drink company. For one, broad terms like “CBD” will be used so commonly that it will be nearly impossible for your site to become a top-ranked result for that term alone. This term just appears in so many places already. In addition, this broad term applies to myriad products—anything CBD related. So yes, in theory, you would be connecting with consumers searching out CBD products, but are these the highest-quality leads you can find? No, they are not.

Using a specific, long-tail keyword like “CBD drinks” or better yet “CBD energy drinks” helps solve both of these problems. Not only will it be easier for your page to rank in returning results for a more specific search like this because there are fewer pages writing content to satisfy this search than the broad “CBD,” but also, the hits you receive are known to be seeking your type of product, or information on that product, specifically. These leads are far more likely to convert.

ABC Method

Make sure you are in incognito mode, so that your results are not affected by traffic cookies, and use Google to do a bit of keyword mining. Going through the alphabet, see what search terms are suggested highest for each letter of the alphabet followed by CBD. Or you can put CBD first. For instance, what are the most common searches suggested by Google when you type in “a CBD” or “b CBD,” “CBD c” and so on. This will give you some ideas for popular CBD searches that are both more specific and relevant to the product or service you are advertising.

Related Searches

Another useful and efficient way to identify high ranking keywords to incorporate into your content is through browsing suggested “related searches.” When you search “CBD energy drinks,” what are the related searches that Google suggests at the bottom of the page? Use these terms in your content as they are the ones frequently used to inquire about a product like yours.

Think creatively – what are your potential customers asking? How can you build those answers into your content?

Use Keyword Research Tools

Sites like Moz.com and Ahrefs.com offer a number of different SEO tools that will be valuable in your keyword research. These sites provide important metrics for keywords, like search volume and keyword difficulty. The most ideal search terms will be ones with low keyword difficulty and high search volume.

Create Smart Pages

Using the search and keyword information you gathered, create content ideas that provide answers to the most relevant and frequently searched questions on search engines. One way to include both frequently asked questions and their answers on your page is to publish an FAQ page.

Build out the questions as subheadings separate from the main body text below each question. Not only will this help you address many popular topics in one place—you can always expound on them in individual posts—but this page will give you a word count bump, which will help boost your authority on a targeted keyword or topic.

Build and Submit a Sitemap

A sitemap is a simple list of the pages on your website in XML format that is easy for Google and other search engines to read. Sitemaps are particularly important for new businesses or sites with a low domain authority that is looking to establish a presence and has their pages indexed on these search engines. While submitting a sitemap itself doesn’t automatically make Google index your pages, it does, in effect, submit your pages for consideration as authoritative pages worth indexing for CBD related search.

Establish Links, Both Internal and External

Links are crucial to SEO, and a site that has a lot of backlinks from relevant and respected external sites will rank well in search results. While a plethora of backlinks is the ultimate goal, establishing them takes time and the continued production of quality content.

While you get that ball rolling, you can also focus on internal links, which have been proven to be valuable to SEO as well. As you continue to create and publish original content, including links between related articles on your site. The more you establish these internal links, the faster pages will get indexed and the better the pages will perform, especially if one of the linked pages already has a decent ranking.
